The UK economy and the impact of the general election

We recently held a live conference looking at the UK economy prior to the general election, discussing the level of impact the result is likely to have on the market.

During the session, Max Shepherd, Group Economist at YBS and Accord Mortgages joined Iain Cunningham, Corporate Account Manager at Accord Mortgages to take a deeper look at the economy.

Max shared his insights and expertise on many issues currently facing mortgage brokers, including:

  • Recovery from the technical recession at the end of 2023
  • Historical inflation trends and impacts of recent events
  • Mortgage rates and the housing markets demand and supply dynamics
  • The general election and how this could affect mortgage brokers and clients

Max, who you may know from his regular Economics 101 blog in the Growth Series, also answered several questions around government support for first-time buyers and potential new schemes, the role of interest-only offers in keeping arrears down and the expectations for interest and mortgage rates in the next 12 months.

Of course, you might not have been able to join the live webinar, or perhaps you’ve only recently discovered the Growth Series. If that’s the case, you can watch a recording of the presentation below:
